The Rancho Tehama Activity Foundation is a non-profit organization with the goal of bringing Culture and Activities to the children of Rancho Tehama.

The Rancho Tehama Activity Foundation came about because we wanted to be able to let the 14 to18-year-olds play baseball. The Rancho Tehama Association Board of Directors informed us that we could not organize any sports on the ranch without having liability insurance to cover it. They also told us that we would not be able to do fundraising for the children without being a non-profit organization. And we couldn't get the insurance we would need to cover the sports activities without being an organization.

In the months it took to get here we were able to find out that PAL's had started teams for the 14 to l8-year-olds and we were able to go under their insurance this year. We are working with the PAL's organization to bring other activities to the ranch and be able to use their insurance. At this time we are not able to afford our own insurance. Once we have insurance it will open up activities that are not covered by PAL's.

We need your help. The children need our help. Without volunteers and funds we are not able to do a lot. There are a lot of good people trying to help bring things to the children - Good News Activities and Dollars For Kids to name a couple - we are just trying to bring more. Working together we can.

Our wish list is huge: 3 acres for a regulation size ball field so other teams could come play here, transportation off the ranch to activities, liability insurance, equipment, movie projector, indoor basketball court / recreation hall, stage, trophies and awards.

With the help from sponsors and fundraising we were able to do a lot this year:

  1. Start the 14 to18-year-old team;
  2. Take the players off the ranch to games;
  3. Buy equipment needed for the teams;
  4. Buy trophies for the players and have opening and closing ceremonies.

And next year we are adding the 5 to 7-year-old teams. But the focus was on baseball and some children don't like baseball so we need to find the other activities for them. We hoped to do soccer this year; we even had coaches lined up to help. But soccer isn't funded through PAL's and costs between $35.00 and $45.00 per child for ages between 5 to 14 years old--and that does not cover equipment. It isn't something we can afford to do at this time but we are working to find ways around the cost for next year.

It seems there are costs and red tape to go through in anything you try to do. So things don't happen as fast as we would like them to. We have a leadership group that meets with volunteers, coaches, parents and anyone who would like to attend on the last Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm in the Recreation Hall.
